Thanks. This is an earlier piece so many of the characters, including the two women you mention, are not as detailed or as well rendered. This is one of the few pieces in color and I had many requests for showing some of the drawings in color so I pulled this one out. It's also the only group shot. Keen eyes will also notice that Corvus, the one in black, does not have his facial hair/stubble that he currently has.
Thanks for the crit, I need the help to improve and love getting it. The praise is cool too but the crits help in the long run.
I don't like the inks.
That said, personally I suck at inking. I overdo the shadows on everything. But you, or whoever, has the opposite problem. The lines look weak and are broken at very unhelpful places. It really looks like something an almost-out-of-ink printer screwed up.
Ah, I see the credits on your site as I'm typing this.
Heh, you are the inker. Let me rephrase. Your inks do not suck, but they need a lot of work to convey a professional and clean look. The guy you're working with leaves a lot of unnecessary spaces and breaks in his lines. It would be a good idea either to convince him to stop doing that, or for you to start inking over them. You are also trying to define things in the picture that really should be the job of the colorist. You have a fairly good colorist who seems to be capable of establishing the forms that need to come from the colours in the picture. Let him do his job. Keep all the ink you can away from things like the noses and eyes. Faces don't have harsh dark lines, unless you're talking beards.. or someone like me who is perpetually in shadow. But shadows aren't thin. The extreme contrast between the thin lines that you use most places and the huge areas of empty black space are not good for the overall composition of the page.
Before I take this too far and discourage you. You obviously have a lot of potential. This is good work, it's just not what it could be. Keep at it, I am going to watch you to see how things go. :]
Thank you for your well thought out and clearly stated comments. I like receiving constructive comments like this. The only way to improve. That said, I also want to state that this piece was penciled and inked almost 3 years ago. I hope we both have improved since then. Back then, we did not know who the colorist would be and the interior pages were in simple black and white, so we wanted to define some areas better. Nowadays, we have grey toning, and the new pages we are currently working on are drawn knowing they will be grey toned. I have also placed a heavier hand with the inking. After this issue was published, a couple years ago, I realized the lines were too thin. I added some weight to them, but I wanted to be faithful to the pencils. It was a learning curve between the penciler and myself.
I truly look forward to your further comments and am glad you are interested enough to keep an eye on our humble work. I can't wait to start getting your, and everyone elses, comments on the brand new pages I'll be uploading in a few weeks. Thanks again.

I'm sorry if anything in that seemed unreasonably harsh. I have a tendency to come off a little rough in text.
Despite the fact that I am primarily a writer, I say things the way that I do.. and sometimes I give the wrong impression.
Thanks. I hope to keep your interest Every person helps. And don't worry.... I'm a writer as well, and many times my mind is one or two steps ahead of my typing
